Uma Tufekcic is a painter and designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Working primarily with oil, ink, and concentrated fabric dye, she creates large-scale works on canvas and clothing that blur the line between fine art and wearable expression.

Her practice is rooted in a fantastical inner landscape — a world shaped by mysticism, nature, and the intuitive experiences of womanhood. Butterflies and angels often emerge as recurring figures, embodying themes of transformation, protection, and spiritual presence. Drawing from Bosnian and ex-Yugoslav folk traditions, Uma integrates the textures and visual language of rugs, naïve painting, and functional crafts into her work, weaving cultural heritage with contemporary imagination.

Her work seeks to transmute lived experience into visual myth — offering viewers a glimpse into the symbolic and enchanted worlds she perceives in everyday life.
